  • UMA Lecturer, Susan Bickford will present the 5th Annual Outdoor Performance and Foraged Feast "(stillness)19" on June 22nd at the Joseph A. Fiore Art Center in Jefferson, Maine.

    A gathering of 24 artists across disciplines will present a
    participatory outdoor performance, celebrating the connection to nature and invoking a deep sense of
    place. Movers, vocalists, musicians, writers, visual artists, foragers, an astrologer, and a cook are among
    the talent that prepares for the celebration. The new location in Jefferson is a meditation on stillness in and of itself.

  • On June 8th, 2019 the UMA Dental Hygiene students and faculty were invited in partnership with the Maine Dental Hygiene Association and the University of New England College of Dental Medicine to offer dental screenings, dental education, and custom sports dental mouth guards to all athletes at the Special Olympics Maine.

    The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with varied intellectual disabilities. In Maine, the Special Olympics is hosted every June at the University of Maine flagship campus in the Alfond Stadium. They serve over 4,400 athletes and offer 70+ events year-round at the local, state, national and international levels. In addition to the events for athletes, many free services are provided to the athletes.

    Among those in attendance were UMA Dental Hygiene students Aspen Cote, Jennifer Cyr, Sarah Donlan, Liz Carrier, Bailey Parent, Rachel St Germain, Dayna Woods, and Ashley Cass accompanied by faculty assistant professor Nancy Foster and adjunct professor Tricia Spearin. The dental hygiene team had a wonderful day volunteering at this event.

  • Benjamin McKenna of Appleton, Maine was selected as a Rising Scholar at the University of Maine at Augusta through UMA's Rockland Center where he's enrolled in the #English program. McKenna acknowledges UMA instructor, Garrett Vail, for the mentorship that catapulted McKenna into pursuing his dreams.

  • UMA Associate Professor Henry Felch participated in the May edition of US Senator Angus King’s podcast #InsideMaine on the topic of cybersecurity. Professor Felch discussed the development of UMA's #Cybersecurity program including the recent development of the Maine Cyber Range with the acquisition of CYBERBIT, a training and simulation center to provide hands‐on experience for cyber students.

    Training through the Maine Cyber Range will also be available to current information technology and cybersecurity professionals at large and small businesses and government agencies seeking realistic and cutting-edge techniques for defending against malicious cyber-attacks.
