  • Cape Cod artist and alumna Joyce Zavorskas '08 MFA 2D finds inspiration for her work in remote places on the Outer Cape. She uses nature as her guide.

  • A little MassArt Love to warm your hearts on Valentines Day: Vanessa Norris '16 BFA met Gustavo Barceloni '17 BFA in Professor Ben Ryterband's wheel throwing class.

They started dating in the January 2016 after spending a lot of time together co-presiding over Clay for Change.

Since graduating, they repurposed their garage into a fully functioning ceramics studio, Dirty E Studios, where they both work and teach. Partners in work, they'll soon be partners in life and love - they're slated to get married in August of this year!

This piece was inspired by her experience at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.

  • Celebrating Black History Month by sharing the story of Lavaughan Jenkins ‘05 BFA Sculpture:

When Lavaughan Jenkins found himself at MassArt, he found his passion. After graduation, he took some time away from art, but his professors encouraged him to get back to the grindstone (or canvas). Their cajoling paid off - he was most recently named a 2019 Foster Prize winner from the The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, and has shown his work from Beijing to Boston!

Of his 3D Paintings shown here, he told us, “You should be able to walk around and through a painting. I want that perspective. Every angle possible is a new painting.”

Follow Lavaughan to see what he’s up to next!

  • t’s February, and that means it’s time to celebrate #MassArtLove! Throughout the month, we’ll be featuring partners that have met at MassArt. Emma Hauer ‘14 BFA Fibers and Carter Lynch ‘14 BFA Painting met during their freshmen year.

They had their first date at Revere Beach in March 2010. They ended up talking so long on a jetty that the tide started to come in, and they had to wade through the freezing ocean water and ride the T back to MassArt with frigid feet and drenched shoes.

They’ve been together ever since then!

  • At MassArt, we're not afraid to get our hands dirty.

Nathaly Davis '19 BFA Illustration is working on her senior thesis, which focuses on Theories of Black & White Holes.

Thanks to classes like "Physics for Artists & The Universe," her interest and love for space and stars has sparked an even greater passion to create art about astronomy. For her thesis, she's working primarily in mixed media on about 24x32” wood panels. From using gesso to create textures, to finger painting to get the colors down, Nathaly's work on the universe has come alive.
