  • UMR students took on public health roles as they participated in EcoliteracySCHOOL, a weekend-long outdoor field experience to Tettegouche State Park. UMR students designed and led the curriculum for Pine Island Public Schools students. UMR students continue to mentor the high school students for the duration of the semester. EcoliteracySCHOOL was designed for health-focused students to engage in environmentally oriented experiential learning and career discussions together.

"EcoliteracySCHOOL has been an amazing experience that dispersed us into the Eco literacy world where we learned to understand the impact we have on the environment as well as the environmental health connections hidden within. This experience has permitted us to build strong relationships between the men-tees (Pine Island High School students) and mentors (UMR students) as we share not only a similar environmental passion but also a future healthcare career goal. I have really enjoyed this class because we all had so much fun camping and learned lots of information about environmental topics. I will be sharing these experiences and my project at the University of Minnesota Undergraduate Research Symposium this Spring." - Katlyn, UMR Junior
