  • Listen up GBC! An important message from VP for Student Affairs Jake Rivera is below:
In response to the government shutdown, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak requested the Nevada System of
Higher Education assist any student affected and enrolled at NSHE’s seven degree-granting institutions.

In support of this request Great Basin College will temporarily defer the fees and/or tuition, and permanently
waive any late penalty for students enrolled in courses for the Spring 2019 semester, for those students who can
show they are a federal worker or a financial dependent of a federal worker impacted by the shutdown.

Where to go: Students impacted by the federal government shutdown are asked to contact the Student Financial
Services Office or the Controller’s Office (see contact information below). Students receiving financial aid are
encouraged to contact the financial aid office first. Both offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
    Friday.

When to go: Students affected by the federal government shutdown should contact the Student Financial
Services or Controller’s Office through end-of-business Friday, Feb. 1. Anyone seeking assistance after that will
present special difficulties that could be avoided by coming in earlier.

What you’ll need: Historical documentation of federal employment. Examples of documentation include the
most recent pay stub received, hiring notice, notice of furlough or other documentation supporting federal
    employment.

Great Basin College recognizes that you and your families have been placed in a very unfortunate situation and
offers a variety of student services that can assist you during this time.

    Student Financial Services Office, 775-753-2399
Our Financial Aid & Scholarships office is here to support you with any financial needs. If your
financial situation has changed as a result of the federal government shutdown, please notify their
office so that they can work with you to adjust any financial need you may be eligible for. Should you
have any questions related to your financial aid eligibility, please call or email financial-aid@gbcnv.edu

    Admissions and Records, 775-753-2102
Should you have any questions related to your enrollment or student status, please call or email
    admissions@gbcnv.edu

  • Here's a little Q & A with Jewelry Instructor Gail Rappa, who will be teaching an evening jewelry I course next semester!
Q: Do I need to purchase tools or bring my own?
A: Nope! All the tools and materials needed for class projects will be provided.
Q: Do I need to know how to make jewelry already?
A: Nope! This is a class for beginners; you just need a willingness to learn.
Q: Will we work with a torch? A: Yes! No worries, you will have plenty of time to get used to the torch and flame; by the end of the semester you will be totally comfortable.
Q: Will we be learning beadwork?
A: No. The class covers fabrication techniques in copper, brass, and sterling silver. We start with sheet and wire and create our pieces from scratch. You will learn some basic wire wrapping techniques to add beads to our jewelry
but we will not be working with seed beads and thread.
