  • "What has motivated me to begin my college career was my family. Coming out of high school, I did not want to attend college, but my siblings and my parents attended, so I decided to give it a shot. I chose Rutgers-Camden because it was close and convenient. While I had no concrete plans to stay, I had planned on either leaving college completely or transferring to a larger university, I found that the Rutgers-Camden community is what made me stay. Here, professors are very responsive to students and actively engage with them on campus. Being a part of the Leadership Institute pushed me toward so many opportunities that I would not have had if I had not chosen Rutgers-Camden.

My motivation for staying in college was the sense of belonging that the Leadership Institute filled me with. My desire to be an active student on campus increased. Meeting so many other awesome students and faculty members made me more excited to be on campus than the actual content I was learning. Therefore, I think the main motivator in my college career has simply been people. I love connecting with people, meeting new people, and developing relationships with people who have forced me out of my comfort zone and to experience the beautiful aspects of campus life." – Maria Tyrrell, Class of 2019

As we count down to commencement, check back each Monday to hear from some of our soon-to-graduate Rutgers students about the things that keep them motivated. #MondayMotivation #RutgersPride #RURahRah
