  • The focus is on South Jersey at The Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs. Established in 2000, this Rutgers–Camden research center puts data to work to address public health, regional funding disparities, and more.

"There are not many entities out there looking at this region because, frankly, it's very much a tale of two states when it comes to South Jersey." Hear more from Darren Spielman, the institute's executive director, and Sarah Allred, the institute's faculty director:

  • Yesterday, a group with no Rutgers affiliation exercised its First Amendment rights in a public space on our campus. The beliefs expressed by this group do not reflect the values of Rutgers University. Ours is a culture of diversity and inclusion, and we denounce this group's sentiments of hate.

Please take a moment to read Chancellor Phoebe Haddon's message to the campus community regarding yesterday's events.

  • Athlete of the Week: Sophomore guard Ian McCarthy had a big week as the Rutgers–Camden men's basketball team went 1-1 in a pair of games, including a 70-68 victory at Kean University Saturday for its first win of the season. McCarthy averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in the two games, while adding two assists, two blocks, and one steal. He scored 19 points against both The College of New Jersey (Wednesday) and Kean, tying his career high set on Nov. 20 against Rowan University. He shot a combined 10-for-23 from three-point range, pouring in five treys in each game to tie another career high he set in that Rowan game. In the win over Kean, he added a career-high 12 rebounds to notch his first career double-double.

For the season, McCarthy is averaging 10.2 points and 5.0 rebounds. He leads the team with 23 treys, shooting .338 (23-for-68) from long distance. #Raptortude

  • Disagreements about the U.S. Constitution are not new; even while it was first being drafted, its authors argued over the extent of this governing document's power. Andrew Shankman, professor of history, discusses the cooperation and conflict among Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson, three writers of the U.S. Constitution—and what that means for us today.

Shankman is the author of "Original Intents: Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison, and the American Founding" (Oxford Academic (Oxford University Press)), 2017). Learn more about "Original Intents": http://go.rutgers.edu/312vqgq1
