  • “The entirety of my life was marked by poverty, abuse, deprivation, dis-empowerment ... But I always had strong literacy skills and knew they were the keys to success. Without SUNY Empire, it would have taken me decades longer to get through both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and I'd still be struggling to survive financially, intellectually, civically, and, to be honest, existentially. I have been able to become things I was not, things I hungered for an entire lifetime, and in the process, my kids witnessed a transformation and saw that it is possible.” – Jessica Marsico ’13, ’18
