  • NASA Accepts Innovative Project by Fayetteville State University

    Fayetteville State University is one of the top ten universities with an innovation idea accepted by NASA. The FSU’s project “Molecular Sequencing and Bio-contaminant identification” takes advantage of an existing NASA patent combined with the know-how by FSU innovators and students led by Dr. Daryush ILA as the PI/Inventor. The innovation is designed for water purification as well as for inline Molecular Sequencing and Bio-contaminant identification which will save life in space and on earth. The student team was led by chemistry student Lenore Miller, and by business student Heather S. Vivian.

    The applications related to NASA include the enhanced ability to test potable water for contaminants on manned expeditions and future extraterrestrial colonization. Read more at: https://bit.ly/2BePEoz

  • Five Fayetteville State University Department of Elementary Education Students Have Secured Teaching Positions

    College of Education at Fayetteville State University, Department of Elementary Education is proud to announce that five out of seven program completers have secured teaching positions, and many will begin before the end of the holiday break. Four of the graduates will be working in Cumberland County Schools, three at Bill Hefner and one at Cliffdale Elementary. The Birth- Kindergarten completer will be working in Richmond County.   • Fayetteville State University was proud to host the North Carolina Campus Compact 2018 CSNAP Student Conference

    The 2018 CSNAP (Citizenship, Service, Networking and Partnerships) Student Conference facilitated by North Carolina Campus Compact was hosted at Fayetteville State University on November 9 – 10, 2018. This year’s theme was “The Power of Youth Civic Courage: From the Civil Rights Movement to Today.” On Friday night, November 9th, FSU commenced the event with guest speaker Mr. Mychal Denzel Smith, New York Times best selling author of Invisible Man, Got the Whole World Watching, a 2017 NAACP Image Award Nominee and consulting producer of the Trayvon Martin documentary, who spoke on Finding Your Inner Political Voice. There were nearly 150 students, faculty, and staff from 24 campuses in North Carolina and beyond that attended the conference. In collaboration with the Fayetteville chapter of Operation Supply Drop, conference participants had the opportunity to write cards/notes to encourage currently deployed troops.

    This year’s CSNAP Student Conference opened its first plenary session with a panel discussion with Dr. Eric Hyman, Professor of English, Fayetteville State University; Dr. Stanley Johnson, Professor of History, Fayetteville State University; Dr. Willis McLeod, Chancellor Emeritus, Fayetteville State University; and Mr. Mychal Denzel Smith, New York Times Bestselling author and television commentator.   • Fayetteville State University student Honored for Community Service

    Fayetteville State University student Julia Downing has been recognized for outstanding leadership and service by North Carolina Campus Compact, a statewide network of colleges and universities with a shared commitment to civic engagement. Downing is a recipient of the network’s Community Impact Award, which honors one student leader at each school.

    Downing is one of 18 students selected by their campus for the 2018 honor, joining more than 250 college students recognized by the network since the award was first presented in 2006.

    Downing has made sustainability the focus of her service. As a member and now vice-president of Fayetteville State’s Green Team, she has volunteered at campus clean-up events, shared information with peers about Lime Bike and Zipcar, and supported a partnership with the Philosophy Club for an Earth Day event. Downing was a key participant in a campus waste audit, and she presented the audit results to faculty, staff, and students. An enthusiastic proponent of recycling on campus, she has worked to raise awareness through the university’s sustainability coalition, campus events, and with first year students.

  • Fayetteville State University Criminal Justice Students Launch Break the Hate in the States Website

    Fayetteville State University (FSU) students in Dr. Emily Lenning’s Criminal Justice (CRJC) 370 course, “Hate in the United States,” are exploring the issue in a unique way by launching a website that brings awareness to the topic.

    This website, designed and created by students, considers the role of hate in U.S. history, U.S. policies, U.S. politics, and the attitudes and behavior of U.S. citizens and state actors. Hate speech, hate ideology, hate groups, hate crimes, and hate crime legislation are all explored in the syllabus component of the site. Made up of a diverse group of students, the site constructors are committed and dedicated criminal justice majors striving to transform hearts and minds.

  • Fayetteville State University Accepting Applications for New Online Master’s Program in Psychology

    The College of Arts and Sciences at Fayetteville State University has announced the establishment of an online master’s degree in psychology.

    The degree is designed to enable students whose circumstances prevent them from attending classes on campus, or those in the military and their relatives obtain a graduate degree.

    Through instructions in theory, statistics, and research methodology, students in the master’s degree program will be prepared for a variety of careers in teaching at community colleges, business, human resource services, research and data analyses, homeland security, and doctoral degrees.
