  • “Before starting college, there were people who told me that I wouldn’t succeed. That I would fail. But I never once doubted myself. I wanted to prove them wrong, oh, and how wrong they were.”

    - Yaritza “Yari” Villanueva, a first generation student, received her degrees in biology, environmental science and fisheries and wildlife science after giving the undergraduate student reflection at winter commencement.

    Congratulations, Vikings!

  • “Did you know that VCSU once housed a museum? Back in 1893, the 3rd Annual Catalog notes an infant museum which included ‘numerous collections of specimens sent out by the National Museum (Smithsonian),’” writes Margaret Dahlberg, Ph.D, vice president for academic affairs and interim president.

Read more about the museum and its founder in the president's bi-weekly column, “The Normal School Museum and Lura Perrine” at https://www.vcsu.edu/news/presidentscorner/.

  • Let's get to know another Viking!

    Meet Sarah Montecuollo 🎼📚✝️✌️

Studying: human services, minoring in music and music education (and also earning American Sign Language certification through Lake Region State College, right here on the VCSU campus)

Fun fact: During her sophomore year at VCSU, she won the talent show with her sign language performance of “Bleed the Same” by Mandisa. She then uploaded the video and sent it on to Mandisa’s manager. Before she knew it, she was performing in the music video and went on to perform live at two concerts including a sold out show with TobyMac in Minneapolis, Minn.

Activities at VCSU: + Tutor in the learning center + Viking Ambassador + jazz band + Alpha Lambda Delta + National Society of Leadership + Vikings for Christ

Plans for the future: continue music interpretation and pursue ministry and counseling with deaf children and children of clergy

Thoughts on VCSU: "No matter what is going on in your personal or academic life, the people here at VCSU are more than willing to roll up their sleeves and help you."
