  • If you’re a bachelor’s or master’s degree candidate participating in the upcoming graduation ceremony on May 11, make sure that you’ve got tickets for your guests. (Note: tickets are NOT required for the associate degree ceremony.)

    All students who requested extra graduation tickets may pick their tickets up at the front desk of Meyer Hall between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Deadline to pick up tickets is 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

    For those who have a graduation application still pending, tickets are being held.

    Any student who did not pick up their original allotment of five tickets should contact Nan Melton, nmelton@rsu.edu.

  • Hunter Hotulke, a Rogers State University communications junior from Owasso, was selected to join the Native American Journalism Fellowship class of 2019. Hotulke, a member of the Seminole Nation, was one of three students from Oklahoma universities to be selected for the fellowship alongside two Oklahoma State University students.
    The selected students come from tribal communities and colleges across the nation and will attend the 2019 National Native Media Conference at the Mystic Lake Center in Prior Lake, Minn. in September.

    The fellows will work in a newsroom with selected mentors representing broadcast, radio, print and online media. Fellows will participate in three webinars prior to the newsroom experience and can receive three hours of college credit at the undergraduate or graduate-level through their respective universities.

    RSU offers a bachelor’s degree in communications with options in communication arts, corporate communications and radio-television, which are also available as minors to combine with other degree programs. Visit www.rsu.edu/communications for more information about RSU degree programs.

  • Rogers State University students and an alumnus earned three statewide awards in the annual Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association student awards competition in April. The OBEA competition featured entrants from 11 of the state’s comprehensive, regional and private universities.

    RSU senior Cade Thomas of Broken Arrow earned first place in the television documentary category for “The Rise of esports” detailing the growth of this sport locally and nationally.

    Recent graduate Austin Burwell of Dewar earned second place for his radio podcast “Musician’s Haven: Finding Fellowship and Friendship through Music.”

    Students in the fall class for Corporate Media Production earned a third place award in informational video category for ”RSU Communications: Broadcasting and New Media.”

    OBEA members include the state’s largest public universities, regional universities, community colleges and private colleges and universities.

  • Rogers State University recently was named one of the top 10 most affordable online degree programs in information technology, according to the online publication Bachelors Degree Center. RSU was the only Oklahoma school included on the list for most affordable online programs. RSU was alongside the University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University as the only three Oklahoma schools included in the publication’s ranking of top information technology programs.

    RSU offers a bachelor’s degree in business information technology with options in computer network administration, software development and multimedia, and game development, as well as a bachelor’s degree in applied technology with an option in cybersecurity and information assurance. Associate degrees are available in computer science and applied technology with options five options available. These programs are available both online and on ground.   • RSU student Michaela Farrill, at left, presented her psychology research on “Exploring the Relationship Between Sex Roles and Feminism” as part of the annual Research Day held at the state capitol. A social sciences-psychology senior from Shawnee, Farrill represented RSU during the March 26 event, which is sponsored by Oklahoma NSF EPSCoR, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the National Science Foundation. The event is designed to raise awareness of the outstanding research that is taking place at Oklahoma’s colleges and universities. Farrill was joined at the event by her research advisor Dr. Sonya Munsell, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and Sociology at RSU. During the event, students from 17 Oklahoma colleges and universities presented poster displays about their original research and discussed details with members of the state legislature and capitol guests.#RSUkudos to Michaela for being such a great ambassador for the university!

  • Rogers State University’s Student Government Association will host its annual Spring Carnival and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20. The Spring Carnival will feature games, prizes and free photos with Hunter the Hillcat.   • Students from art professor Bryce Brimer’s sculpture class will be getting a unique view of campus tonight as they sleep in art shelters they designed. As part of their class, the students had to make a work of art that can also double as a personal shelter in which the students will spend the night. Brimer said the exercise teaches the balance of form and function.
