  • Exciting work emerging from the Civil Engineering department at Oregon Tech. A new publication from the National TREC - Transportation Research and Education Center is helping to fill the demand for North American city officials to design streets with bikes (and the people on them) in mind.

And Oregon Tech's professor of Civil Engineering, Dr. Roger Lindgren, is helping to make this case study possible. Working with research assistants Jordan Preston (2018 civil engineering graduate and a current civil engineering master's student) and Elizabeth Cox (current civil engineering student), Dr. Lindgren teamed up with faculty from University of Oregon's Planning, Public Policy and Management department and Department of Architecture to rethink streets as welcoming places for people to walk, bike, shop, dine and socialize.

The demand is growing for streets that fulfill the needs of cars AND people and Dr. Lindgren, Jordan Preston and Elizabeth Cox are answering the call. ๐Ÿš—๐ŸšŽ๐Ÿšˆ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšธ

  • As the Oregon Tech Owls softball team celebrated a win this weekend, they were joined by an audience also celebrating the official ribbon cutting of the John & Lois Stilwell Stadium. In the 10 months since the groundbreaking, the stadium has been transformed into a first-rate softball complex made possible by the vision of the Stilwells and their lead gift.

Their passion for academic excellence, athletics, and student success motivated John and Lois to generously support the University in many ways, including capital projects, student travel, and endowed scholarships which make it possible for numerous students to pursue their educational and professional dreams, now and in the future. Thank you, Lois & John Stilwell, may your legacy continue to live on through this facility. โค๏ธ๐Ÿฆ‰โšพ๏ธ

  • Several senior engineering students at Oregon Tech have taken on a senior design project that aims to provide the Klamath Falls City School board with a site plan detailing the safest route for kids to and from Ponderosa Middle School.

Jonathan Blout, Kurtis Pipkin and project manager Trevor Lundsten presented the proposed site plan to the board during its regular meeting, but members of the group also include Trevor Davis, Joslyn Stansfield and Jacob Shelton.

The plan aims to make student drop-off safer and the area more walkable around the middle school. The studentsโ€™ final presentation on the project is on Thursday, March 21 at Oregon Tech.

  • In honor of American Heart Month, a story of love found at Oregon Techโ€ฆโค๏ธ
Sheenah Schultz transferred to Oregon Tech in search of love. While in high school a tumor was found in her left tibia and she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a very rare type of bone cancer. Even through the surgeries and chemotherapy, and the new threat of cardiovascular problems, Sheenah most looked forward to each echocardiogram that would allow her to see her heart remaining strong.

Six years later, Sheenah has the opportunity to study hearts each day in the Echocardiography program at Oregon Tech. This year, with the help of Oregon Tech Foundation donors, her receiving of the Running Y scholarship has reaffirmed that she was right to follow her heart in pursuing echocardiography at Oregon Tech.

โ€œIt gave me a new perspective on how I saw the heart and it seemed interesting to me for some reason. I always knew God allowed me to have cancer for a purpose. I could not figure out what that purpose was until I came to a realization one day about how much I liked ultrasound of the heart.โ€

Thank you, Sheenah, for leading the next generation of cardiovascular professionals!

  • Long-time champions of Oregon Tech and education in Oregon, the James and Shirley Rippey Family Foundation has provided additional generous support of student scholarships and civil engineering equipment upgrades at Oregon Tech.

The gift will continue to fund the James and Shirley Rippey Family Foundation Scholarship, which has helped 32 students since its establishment in 2012; and investment in the Oregon Tech Finish Line Fund, assisting students who are nearing graduation, but at risk of not completing their degrees due to financial challenges.

The civil engineering equipment upgrade portion of the grant will equip state-of-the-art civil engineering laboratories in Cornett Hall, providing students with laboratory and classroom opportunities that directly prepare them for immediate success in industry.

In honor of the Rippey Family Foundationโ€™s strong investments in student financial support and project initiatives, we are proud to announce that Cornett Hall will soon be home to the James and Shirley Rippey Family Foundation Concrete Laboratory.

Thank you to the entire Rippey Family Foundation for their commitment to Oregon Tech and our students.
