  • We're thrilled to be attending The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Contest Powwow tomorrow and Saturday. Any student who applies for WOU admissions at the Powwow, and ultimately enrolls on campus, will receive a $2,000 WOU scholarship toward their first year on campus.

The application fee will also be waived for students who apply at the Powwow. Paper copies of the application will be available at WOU’s booth during the Powwow, or the application can be filled out online.

This is open to tribal members who apply for fall 2019 or fall 2020.

We're honored to be the first university invited by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to be participating in this tradition.

We will have representatives from our Admissions, Financial Aid and Academic Advising offices at our booth.

“We are elated that representatives from WOU are joining us at our largest gathering, the Grand Ronde Contest Powwow, to help individuals explore their opportunities for higher education,” stated Tammy Cook, Chairwoman of Grand Ronde’s Education Committee. “We hope this opportunity will help those who attend the event and inspires greater collaboration between tribes and local colleges to make not only their presence felt in tribal communities. By working together— we can erase some of the invisibility associated with indigenous peoples in higher education.”

  • Ethan Novak, from Imperial, California, completed an Elementary Master of Arts in Teaching. He shares what he loves most about WOU:

"Throughout my grad program, I truly felt like all of my professors were invested in my development as an educator. They were quick to respond to questions, they listened to feedback, and they were great about considering which learning experiences would be most impactful for my cohort. Having professors like that–ones who are truly dedicated to the profession–makes a world of difference for students at WOU."

  • Caitlyn, from Honolulu, Hawaii, just graduated with a bachelor's in business and will be starting her Master's of Business Administration in the fall!

She has some advice for future Wolves:

"Take advantage of the whole ‘starting over’ phase. This is the chance to challenge yourselves, explore your options, and prove to others what you all are capable of doing. It’s like getting a second chance at re-doing everything because you’re placed in a different environment in a different community with different people from different places from all around the world.

Come to college with an open mind because you all get to learn more about yourselves and discover what your interests are. This is truly the time where you all want to thrive not just survive."

  • A message from President Fuller:

    Dear WOU community,

I am devastated to learn that missing WOU student Karissa Fretwell, and her young son, have been found deceased. I know I wasn’t alone in wishing for a joyful outcome for Karissa, Billy and their loved ones. My thoughts are with all who knew and cared for them. I know our community will come together and support each other in this difficult time.

Students, please reach out to the Student Health and Counseling Center for support: wou.edu/health.

  • Alison Nelke, from Albany, Oregon, will be graduating with a bachelor’s in Business and an Accounting concentration, as well as a minor in History.

"I was a captain and 4-year member of the WOU women’s basketball team. I also worked for the Athletic department to set up and run sports games. Since spring 2017, I have been a tutor specializing in accounting courses and study skills.

Basketball dictated a large portion of my time on campus, but taught me incredible lessons in work ethic, leadership, conflict resolution, and time management. Being a tutor was an unexpected opportunity that helped me discover how much I enjoy teaching. I hope to one day become a professor after working in the accounting field. Tutoring at WOU showed me how fulfilling tutoring and teaching can be."
