  • On #GivingTuesday, the annual global day of philanthropic giving, IUP’s efforts this year will help to establish a food pantry for students. The problem of food insecurity relates not only to lack of food but also to quality—nutrient-rich food—and it’s not confined to IUP. Colleges and universities across the country, including some others in Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education, are establishing food pantry programs, feeding thousands of hungry students. • More than 100 members of the IUP and area community celebrated the unveiling of “Answering the Call,” a monument honoring veterans of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. IUP’s student military honor fraternity, Rho Tau Chi (Beta chapter), commissioned the sculpture and organized the ceremony to take place on Veteran’s Day (November 11, 2018). The design is by a former student and almost all the work to create the sculpture was done in house. Heather Kaiser, an 11-year veteran who served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, took the project on as an internship project under the director of art faculty member Sean Derry.
