    The talk is free and open to the public. Sevgi Akarcesme will speak on Tuesday, February 19th from 1:00-2:15 pm in 317 Alumni Hall. If you would like more information, contact Dr. Jonathan Rothermel.

    Biography: Sevgi Akarcesme is a Turkish political journalist and the dismissed editor-in-chief of Today’s Zaman, the largest English daily in Turkey which was brutally taken over by the regime in March 2016. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Turkey’s leading Bilkent University in 2001. She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Istanbul Bilgi University and second master’s degree in political science from Temple University. Following her graduate studies in Philadelphia, in 2005 she joined a major U.S. think-tank, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C. After she returned to Turkey, she was employed at the Office of the President between 2008-11 primarily as a special assistant to the first lady. After working as an advisor at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she switched to media in 2012, worked as a prolific correspondent in Today’s Zaman and wrote columns for both daily Zaman and Today’s Zaman until the confiscation of the papers by the government. In exile, she managed TurkishMinute.com full time until May 2017 from Belgium. Currently, Akarcesme continues to report from the United States, including for TurkishMinute.com, and speaks at panels and relevant events as a media freedom advocate.

  • Campus Community,

    Based on the current forecast information from the National Weather Service, the Mansfield area is expected to receive a significant snowfall this weekend. As a result of this, the University will put into place the following parking restrictions to allow for clearing of snow from the parking lots and sidewalks.

    From 10am on Saturday Jan. 19th until 5pm on Sunday Jan. 20th there will be NO PARKING permitted for the following areas;
    · On street parking – Campus wide
    · The “T Lot” – Adjacent to the Soccer Field
    · The “A, A2, & B Lots” West side – (Oak, Sycamore, and Hickory Lots – Building/Sidewalk side of the parking lots) Parking will be permitted on the embankment/hill side of these parking lots only.

    *See attached Photo below

    After the snow event has concluded on Sunday afternoon vehicles parked in the T-2(Top of the hill) parking lot should be moved to the T-Lot (Soccer Field Lot) to allow the clearing of the T-2 Lot.

    With your assistance, this will enable the university facilities crew to clear the snow more efficiently.

    Mansfield University will be monitoring the weather and storm conditions throughout the weekend. We will provide any follow up information or alerts as needed.

    Thanks you for your assistance.

    Mr. Jim M Welch
    Environmental Health & Safety Director
