  • We’ve shared the inspirational stories of first time graduates in their respective families. For our last featured student, we wanted to share the story of Iramius. She recently earned her Master of Science in Psychology earlier this year, and completed her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration in 2016. She currently works at the local sheriff’s department. As Iramius said, “I am hoping that my educational journey will not only continue to encourage me to keep moving forward but to inspire my two young daughters and husband to go further in their educational journey.” Great work, Iramius!

  • We’re here with another member of our First in the Family series. Anita went back to college at 50, and graduated at age 53. She graduated with a 3.97 GPA from her Bachelor of Science in Business with a Marketing Certificate in 2013. And if this wasn’t impressive enough, Anita accomplished all this while battling cancer, a divorce and working full-time! She’s the only one of four siblings to go to college, and after her graduation, her mom had her diploma, sash and pins framed for everyone to see. Amazing, Anita!

  • Continuing with our First in the Family series, we wanted to share the story of Michelle! Read her incredible story below.

After marrying her high school sweetheart in 1986, Michelle dropped out of school and started a family. She enjoyed her life as a stay at home mother, but once her boys had grown, she started to consider earning her college degree. As Michelle said, “when I was a young girl, living in a world of extreme adversity, going to school was not on the list of high priorities, let alone college.” Despite the adversity she faced, Michelle made the decision to return to school and graduated with her first college degree in 2012. She didn’t stop there, though. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2014, and finally earned her Master of Business Administration in 2018. Now that she has completed her degree, Michelle said, “I am the happiest I have ever been... I want to be the example of perseverance to my two granddaughters.” We’re proud of you, Michelle!

  • Logan is the first in his family to earn a college degree, and in time, he’ll be the first to earn a Master’s degree, too! Read about his educational journey below.

Logan decided to go back to school in 2011, 7 years after his high school graduation. After four years of hard work, he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business with a Marketing Certificate in the summer of 2015. And, after a little soul-searching, he decided to return to school to complete his Master’s degree, too. Logan is currently in his second year of earning his Master’s in Education, and he could not be happier with his decision. He credits his lovely wife Johanna for the initial inspiration to earn his degree, as well as her unwavering support throughout his journey. Asked to describe how it feels being the first in his family to earn a degree, Logan said, “being the first person in my family to achieve a college degree really means so much to me, and I know my mother would be proud if she could see just how far I have come.” Congratulations, Logan!
