  • These autonomous robots will roll and fly through a dark, mysterious Pittsburgh-area mine during the next several days as Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute - RI researchers compete against 10 other international teams. The DARPA Subterranean Challenge is designed to create future technology to assist in disaster situations. The robots will be scored on their ability to develop a 3D map of the mine and identify a variety of objects along the way, including simulated human survivors.
