  • From Bentonville High School to UA Little Rock. This fall, Cash Jones will make his college debut on the Little Rock Wrestling team. As one of the first members of UA Little Rock’s debut wrestling cohort, Cash is coming off an impressive record at Bentonville High and has plans to keep the momentum going at the college level.

"I want to be a national champion, and I want to be a conference champion. Wrestling is an individual expression. I don’t have to rely on anyone else but me. It’s high-risk, high-reward, and a gamble every time. I love it."

Cash originally planned to attend Campbell University in North Carolina, but transferred to UA Little Rock after learning the university was starting the first college wrestling program in his home state.

"I’m ecstatic to be at UA Little Rock. It’s not often that you get the opportunity to be the first at something, and here you can be the first person to do everything in wrestling. You can be the first person to win a match, the first person to be a national champion, and the first person to All-American. That’s an opportunity I’d really like to have."

  • Despite growing up with a father who is a physician, becoming a doctor was not part of Arooba Ilyas's plans.

"I came into college saying I’m not pre-med, but I really gained a passion for medicine working as a volunteer in the UAMS Emergency Department."

As a student, Arooba was a Donghey Scholar and researched how renewable resources can be used to purify water.

"I used consumption waste materials, such as used tea leaves and cigarette buds, as a green chemistry source to purify water. I walked around campus with little baggies and gloves and picked up the old cigarette buds. Why not use something that is littering the world and put it to better use?"

She recently graduated from UA Little Rock with a biology degree and is taking a gap year to focus on her research and volunteer work with the Islamic Center of Little Rock. She's also taking time to study for the MCATs and apply for medical school.
