  • Composer and Music Professor Emeritus Brent Heisinger, ’58 Music, was commissioned to write a piece for the California State Honor Symphonic Band in 1970. He drew inspiration from the protests outside his office window, listening as students chanted about the Vietnam War, women’s liberation and civil rights. The result was “Statement,” a composition that instructs singers to yell their personal beliefs while using sound to explore “the turmoil of man’s existence through time: an uneasy calm that moves into chaos, a struggle for resolution, and peace.” Five decades later, the SJSU Wind Ensemble will be performing this iconic composition under the direction of Band Director David Vickerman, who says that it is “not a one-sided political piece, but rather an expression of our current culture.” Join us for this special April 10 performance at the Music Building Concert Hall. https://buff.ly/2uXTK1u
