  • There may be a connection between women’s involvement in land management decisions and environmental conservation. A recent study examined the role gender quotas play in regard to conservation efforts abroad.
“The big takeaway here is that when it comes to environmental conservation, the presence of women matters,” said lead author Nathan Cook, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Behavioral Science.

  • Several units across campus have come together to form the CU Medical Services Concussion Team at Wardenburg -- a university-wide group working to diagnose and provide evidence-based care for students with concussions.

“The partnership between the Concussion Team and academics addresses our goal of helping students after concussions by providing integrated, interdisciplinary education, research, treatment and resourcing across the student’s time at CU. Together these may reduce the risk of concussion, reduce recovery time after concussion and optimize outcome and life-course trajectory," says Theresa D. Hernández, the associate dean of research for the CU Boulder College of Arts & Sciences and a part of the Concussion Team.

  • Despite a scientific consensus that genetically modified foods are safe for human consumption and have the potential to provide significant benefits, many people oppose their use. Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder researchers determined “the more strongly people report being opposed to GM foods, the more knowledgeable they think they are on the topic, but the lower they score on an actual knowledge test.”

“Most people don’t think it’s fun to watch cycling. But we’re doing short laps and there are a lot of crashes. We have races at Valmont Bike Park. There are vendors and food trucks. It’s festive. There are races all day, and you’ll see a person five or six times from one point on the course, since it wraps around itself. It’s a cool sport.”
