  • Every year, Mines celebrates the graduating women at the Society of Women Engineers Continuum.

In the spring of 1999, Susan Rainey, a SWE member and graduating senior, wanted to honor and recognize the women graduating from Mines. Susan was responsible for bringing SWE, WISEM, and the Mines Alumni Association together to develop and sponsor the biannual event – “The Continuum.” Each fall and spring semester, on the Wednesday evening before graduation, family, friends, alumnae, and the Mines community are invited to celebrate the accomplishments of these women.

The Colorado School of Mines student section of SWE is the largest professional organization on campus and the largest collegiate SWE section in the nation.

  • "Ammonia synthesis is very energy intensive, accounting for 1-2 percent of global energy consumption, and it's the largest generator of CO2 among commodity chemicals. There is a big opportunity to reduce our energy and carbon footprint." - Colin Wolden.

Researchers from Mines have been awarded $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy to develop catalytic membrane reactors that could significantly improve the efficiency of both ammonia production and its utilization.
